ALOPECIA HAIR LOSS

Alopecia hair loss is an autoimmune disease that causes hair follicles to die. The most common type of Alopecia Hair Loss is alopecia areata, which affects mostly men or women, ages 10 to 40, who are most commonly of African-American or Hispanic-American descent. All of us at some point in our lives suffer from alopecia. It is a condition in which hair is lost from various parts of the body, commonly the scalp. Though hair loss is not a life-threatening condition, it can be a real contributor to a person's distress and even cause him/her to feel depressed.  Hair loss is more common among women than men. It is a genetic condition. Hair is made up of small cells called follicles. Normally, a hair grows from a single follicle and the hair root is attached to the skull. In alopecia, one or more of the follicles stops producing hair. The hair loss is not due to a medical condition, but to a hereditary factor.

ALOPECIA is a skin disease in which the body stops producing enough oil in the sebaceous glands in the skin. This results in an abnormal dryness of the scalp and eyebrows. The disease affects the entire body, including the eyelashes, armpits, upper lip, hair, nails, and genital area. When the body produces too little oil, hair comes out. Sometimes called ALOPECIA areata, ALOPECIA areata is caused by the immune system attacking the hair follicles. Other types of ALOPECIA are caused by hormonal changes, immune system problems, medications, problems with the oil glands themselves, and certain diseases.
